Movement Planned Around the ItineraryPrivate transportation in Egypt

What vehicles does a private Egypt journey use?

Five named vehicle types, matched to the size of the group and the occasion: a Sedan as the private chauffeur car, the Mercedes V-Class for small private groups, the Toyota Hiace van, the Toyota Coaster minibus, and a full-size Bus for larger groups.

Every vehicle comes with a licensed driver, and every movement is scheduled with the rest of the programme: the flight, the hotel, the guide and the river.

The principle

Matched to the Group, Not Drawn From a List

“A private car” tells you nothing. The vehicle should tell you who is in it.

A couple arriving for a week of private touring, a family of seven with a month’s luggage and a large incentive group need different vehicles, and often more than one kind in the same journey. The vehicle is chosen for each movement from four things in the brief: how many are travelling, what they are carrying, the occasion, and the road.

An airport arrival, a long day on the road between Luxor and Aswan and an evening at a gala dinner can each call for something different. We plan them that way, rather than assigning one vehicle to the whole trip and hoping it fits.

The Vehicle Types

Five types, from a single chauffeur car to a full-size coach, each matched to a kind of group. Every one is driven by a licensed driver, and vehicles are insured.

  1. A line of black Kia saloon cars in Triways livery on a paved forecourt at dusk

    Sedan

The private chauffeur car, for one or two guests: an executive between meetings, a couple on an arrival transfer, a VIP guest moving across Cairo in the evening.

Best for One or two guests

  2. A black Mercedes-Benz V-Class in Triways livery, the first of a line parked before the Giza pyramids

    Mercedes V-Class

The Mercedes V-Class, or the Vito, for small private groups: a family, two couples travelling together, or a senior party arriving with a guide. Room to sit facing one another and room for the luggage, without the scale of a minibus.

    Best for Small private group

  3. A line of white Toyota Hiace high-roof vans in Triways livery in a tree-lined car park

    Toyota Hiace

The Toyota Hiace van, for a larger family or a small group with luggage and equipment. A practical choice for day touring and for the transfers that bookend a Nile cruise.

    Best for Family, with luggage

  4. A line of white Toyota Coaster minibuses in Triways livery at golden hour

    Toyota Coaster

The Toyota Coaster minibus, for a mid-size group that should travel together in one vehicle: a club, an educational group, or the delegates of a smaller programme.

    Best for Mid-size group

  5. A line of full-size Volvo coaches in green and white Triways livery

    Bus

The full-size coach, for larger groups, tours and MICE programmes. Where a group is too large for one, the coaches move together to one schedule. See Group Tours and MICE.

Best for Larger group or tour

  6. A line of white Toyota Land Cruiser 4x4 vehicles in Triways livery in the desert at sunset

    4x4, for the desert

Beyond the five: desert excursions are made in 4x4 vehicles, driven by drivers who know the terrain. See Adventure.

    Best for Desert excursion

How Transport Is Planned

Matched to the brief and scheduled with everything else, not booked transfer by transfer. Transport is one part of the Egypt DMC service; this is how that part is carried.

  1. Read the brief

Group size, luggage, arrival flights, the occasion and the route. Anything that changes what a vehicle has to do is taken from the brief, not guessed on the day.

  2. Match each movement

A vehicle type is chosen for each movement, so the airport arrival, a long road day and an evening event can each have the right one.

  3. Schedule it with the rest

Pick-ups are timed to the flights, the hotel, the guide, site opening hours and cruise embarkation, as one schedule. Meet & Assist hands the client to the vehicle at arrival.

  4. Brief the driver

The driver knows the programme, the pick-up points and who to call. The guide, where there is one, travels with the group. Guides & Experts describes them.

  5. Hold it on the day

Movements are followed while they happen, with 24/7 support. When a flight lands late or a day changes, the vehicle is re-timed with it. On-Ground Operations sets out how.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What vehicle types are available for a small private group vs. a larger tour?

Five named types. A Sedan is the private chauffeur car for one or two guests; the Mercedes V-Class suits a small private group; the Toyota Hiace van takes a family or small group with luggage; the Toyota Coaster minibus takes a mid-size group; and a full-size Bus carries a larger group or tour. Desert excursions are made in 4x4 vehicles.

Is transportation coordinated with the rest of the itinerary, or booked separately?

Coordinated. Every movement is scheduled with the flights, the hotels, the guide and any Nile cruise embarkation, so the vehicle is there because the itinerary needs it, not because a transfer was booked on its own.

Are the vehicles chauffeured and insured?

Yes. Every vehicle comes with a licensed driver, and vehicles are insured.

Whose vehicles are pictured on this page?

The coach, Coaster, Hiace and 4x4 photographs show vehicles of our sister company, Planet Tours; Triways is part of a wider Egyptian travel network and works alongside Planet Tours. The V-Class and Sedan photographs show the vehicle type.

How is this page different from the Egypt DMC service?

The Egypt DMC page describes the service Triways offers travel professionals, of which transport is one part. This page sets out what the transport capability actually consists of: the vehicle types, what each is matched to, and how movements are planned.
